After many years as a mechanic in motorcycle shops I decided to start my own business in September of 1986. My first son was born three months before so he holds the honor of the name Ian Lewis Roberts, hence ILR Performance.
Still working today after more than 40 years gives me a broad range of experiences to draw on and creative solutions are usually the most fun. Every 720cc snowmobile motor I get to stick into a Quadzilla or a big bore Blaster is just as much fun as ever. My passion is taking each and every machine and making it bigger, better and faster than it was before.
My first motorcycle was a 1972 Yamaha JT1 Mini Enduro 60. I bought it from my older brother in 1976 for $40.00. It didn't run very often so I got a lot of experience working on it! I have owned Jet Skis, Ultralight aircraft, snowmobiles, quads, street bikes and dirt bikes. I am now down to a few quads, a "few" dual sport motorcycles and a couple of snowmobiles. They take all the time and spare change I have.
I travel extensively and it's amazing to see the love of two and four wheelers across the globe Scooter shops in Bandung Indonesia, chromed up Harley's in Ankara Turkey and dirt bikes in Coober Pedy Australia.
